About the
Faculty of Statistics
The Faculty of Statistics currently counts
944 students, 198 first year students, 184 graduates and 67 teachers.
An independent statistics centre was established in
Padova since 1913; it then became an Institute and in 1927 a School of Statistics was offering two year courses and awarding
diplomas.
The School was much appreciated for the reliability
of teaching and the quality of learning. It got to be so successful that it counted as many students as the School
of Law and ranked first place at national
level.
Based on these outstanding results, the Faculty of Statistics was officially established in 1965 and continues its work offering
a variety of bachelor/master courses and a dedicated PhD.
What statisticians do
Statisticians collect and analyze data, then calculate results using a specific design. They draw conclusions and make decisions in the face of
uncertainty. Collecting data on subsets of the population (samples) can give valid information about the whole
population.
